About Overlook
Updated
Overlook is made by CTT Apps LLC, a small independent software company. We build tools for watching, keeping and sharing the footage Rivian vehicles record with their cameras.
Why we built it
A Rivian records Gear Guard, Incident Cam and RoadCam footage to a USB drive, but it writes every camera to a separate file, splits drives into 15-minute parts, and names files on two different clocks. After a door ding, that means opening dozens of files one at a time and trying to work out which moments line up. We wanted to plug the drive into a computer and simply see what happened, from every side at once.
Overlook started in 2026 as that viewer: a web app that reads the drive in your browser and plays every camera in sync, without uploading anything. It grew from what owners kept asking for next:
- Overlook on the web (watch.overlookcam.app): free, works offline, footage stays on your computer.
- Overlook for iPhone and iPad: the same player, with the drive plugged into the phone or tablet. More about the app.
- Overlook Plus: private cloud backup, share links and family sharing, for footage you need to keep after the car records over it. Pricing.
- Overlook Cache: free software that turns a Raspberry Pi into the car’s USB drive and backs recordings up on its own. Build one.
What we care about
- Your footage is yours. By default nothing leaves your device. Only recordings you choose to back up are uploaded, to storage only you and the people you share with can see. Our privacy policy sets out exactly what we collect.
- Plain pricing. Watching is free. Pro is a one-time purchase; Plus is a subscription you can cancel at any time, with 30 days to download your recordings afterwards.
- Getting it right. Rivian changes things with software updates. When the car does something new, we change Overlook and the guides to match.
How we write the guides
The guides come from building Overlook: reading real Rivian drives, working out how the car names and splits its files, and running the Overlook Cache in a car through power cuts, Wi-Fi changes and Rivian’s own drive checks. Where we state a number (a byte offset, a speed, a size), it’s one our software depends on. Where something varies by model or software version, we say so rather than guess. Each guide shows the date it was last updated.
If you find a mistake, or your car behaves differently from what a guide describes, please tell us at [email protected]. Corrections from owners are the most useful mail we get.

Independence
Overlook isn’t affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Rivian. We read the files the car writes to its drive, the same files you can open yourself; we don’t connect to your Rivian account or the vehicle’s systems. Rivian, Gear Guard and other names are trademarks of their owners.
